The Concordia University hallways look a lot different these days. For more than 50 international students, however, campus life at CUW continues on. Nearly 40 Chinese students, as well as 18 from South Korea and several African countries, make up the international student population still on Concordia’s campus. Concordia, along with its international partner institutions and parents, discussed options for the remaining students amidst talks of a coronavirus shutdown. Together, they came to the conclusion that Concordia would provide the safest environment, while still allowing students the best opportunity to continue their education. Out of the blue: Pick-me-up packages for CUW students
All in blue, and out of the blue—just because. Under different circumstances, our undergraduates might have looked forward to a care package sent to campus from loved ones at home. To show we care, Concordia reverse-sent 10 randomly selected undergraduates care packages that were complete with treats, mementos from campus, and messages of well wishes from their home-away-from-home. Pharmacy School students again surpass national residency match averages
One could say that Concordia University Wisconsin pharmacy school students have this program "down to a science," as they exceeded national residency match averages for a third successive year. Over 68 per cent of the Class of 2020 pursuing accredited residency program matching successfully received placements this spring, higher than the 62.9 per cent national average according to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In addition, six members of the Class of 2019 successfully early committed and matched to pharmacy graduate year two residencies, also higher than the national average. International Center goes the extra mile for 57 students still on campus
Concordia University's International Center staff is going the extra mile to ensure that 57 international students still residing on campus have everything they need to not only continue their education, but stay engaged with their classmates while maintaining mandated social distancing. Innovative ideas include learning together how to order online from area restaurants and stores, crafts they can pick up and complete in their rooms, individual Zoom meetings with students concerning visa questions, and social media posts with virtual museum tours, cooking shows and amusement park rides. Concordia celebrates Lunar New Year: “We want to show our support”
The coronavirus has dampened Lunar New Year celebrations around the globe this year. Even within the U.S., public celebrations have been canceled in order to mitigate risk. At Concordia University Wisconsin though, where thankfully, no infection has been detected, the celebration went on as an opportunity to recognize and support friends and family amid the state of affairs in Asia. On Friday, Concordia’s International Center hosted a Lunar New Year celebration that featured traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean food, activities, and decor. DNC Host Committee President kicks off MBA Industry Leaders Seminar spring series
The 2020 Democratic National Convention is expected to have a $200 million economic impact on the entire Milwaukee metropolitan area, a significantly higher impact than the previous two conventions. Concordia’s international enrollment among highest in the state
Of course the university with the fourth largest international population in the state would put on a good showing for International Education Week. The Institute of International Education released on Monday its annual list of institutions with the highest number of international students. With 326 international students enrolled, Concordia University Wisconsin again came in fourth behind University of Wisconsin-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, and Marquette University. Concordia’s total contributes to the more than 13,000 international students who are studying in Wisconsin this year. Concordia University Wisconsin alumnus Si Gou (’18) is an anomaly. At the age of 18, with just one collegiate year under his belt, he became one of only a handful of students in the U.S. to pass his first actuary exam on the first try. The pass rate for the first actuarial exam is 40 percent, and the statistical odds of someone passing it at such a young age only increase from there. Jacob “Jake” Fynn Rises to New Heights
Jacob Fynn values his Concordia education so much he’s working to bring a piece of it to the Ghanaian institution where he works. The recently promoted chief operating officer of Wisconsin International University College-Ghana (WIUC-G) graduated from Concordia in 2010 with his MBA.
